    What is a Facelift?

    Before & After

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as:

    • Sagging in the middle of your face
    • Deep creases below the lower eyelids
    • Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth
    • Fat that has fallen or has disappeared
    • Loss of skin tone in the lower face that creates jowls
    • Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw can give even a person of normal weight the appearance of a double chin

The loss of youthful contours in the face can be due to a variety of factors, including heredity, gravity, environmental conditions, and stress.

Rejuvenation procedures typically performed in conjunction with a facelift are brow lift, to correct a sagging or deeply furrowed brow, and eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes.

    What a facelift won’t do

As a restorative surgery, a facelift does not change your fundamental appearance and cannot stop the aging process.

A facelift can only be performed surgically; non-surgical rejuvenation treatments cannot achieve the same results, but may help delay the time at which a facelift becomes appropriate and complement the results of surgery.

What is Facial Fat Grafting, and Volume Restoration?

Besides wrinkling and gravity, volume loss to the face has become increasingly recognized as an important component to the aging process, which can be restored with either office-based fillers or facial fat grafting.

Fat grafting, through a gentle hand-harvesting method, purification process, and microdroplet injection technique, has shown to improve durability compared with older techniques that could compromise transplanted fat longevity.

A metaphor can help people understand the role of fat grafting: when we are young we are a full, ripe grape and as we become older we deflate into a raisin. The question then is why should we cut and pull the raisin into a pea, when we should think about reinflating it back into a grape. Clearly, fat grafting is not a treatment for all aging, just the part that involves loss of volume.

Volume loss is particularly more pronounced around the eyes, cheeks, and jawline, where fat grafting can play the greatest role in creating a balanced and comprehensive rejuvenation strategy for the face that may include blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery) and/or a facelift.

Fat grafting involves removing fat from one’s own abdomen or thighs to put into certain regions of the face that start to lose fat. Only tiny amounts of fat are removed so this should not be equated with liposuction. Using blunt cannulas (which are 1 mm hollow tubes with a blunt end and a small hole through which the fat comes out) the fat is injected as little droplets throughout the areas of facial hollowness. By using this microdroplet technique, grafted fat has a much higher blood supply so that survival is improved and the results are smoother given how small each individual fat parcel is.

Breast Lift vs. Breast Implants Cost

Breast Lift vs. Breast Implants and the Financial Impact

Breast Surgery | Breast Lift | Breast Implants | Beverly Hills Breast lift and breast implants are both popular plastic surgery procedures in the US, which are performed largely for aesthetic reasons. Advancements in surgical techniques and superior quality of implants have made the procedures safer and more effective. When these procedures are performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, the success rate can be 95% or above.

The cosmetic surgeon, in close consultation with the patient, will determine which of the two procedures is more suited in a particular case. Some patients may need both procedures to be performed in conjunction in order to achieve desired outcomes. As a board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Gary Motykie provides both these procedures to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.

    Cost of Combined Surgery

In some cases, the surgeon may recommend breast augmentation with lift as the best treatment approach to achieving the patient’s unique aesthetic goals. The cost of the combined procedure will be higher as compared to each procedure performed separately.

However, from a cost effectiveness point of view, a combined procedure proves better because costs of general anesthesia, operating room costs, and related expenses are incurred only once. Surgeon’s fee, however, is higher in a combined surgery because of the increased complexity and length of the procedure.

    Insurance Aspects

The breast lift is usually not covered by health insurance because it is an elective surgery. Breast augmentation, in some cases, may be eligible for health insurance coverage, if the procedure is performed for medical reasons. Breast implants may be required to restore the breast appearance following a mastectomy, which may be covered under the patient’s health plan.

    Seeking a Facelift Without Surgery

    Seeking a Facelift Without Surgery

Facelift | Non Surgical | Botox | Thermage | Beverly Hills | Los AngelesThe facelift is one of the most sought after plastic surgery procedures to reduce the signs of aging and restore a more youthful appearance of the face. However, some patients may not be prepared to undergo a surgery for an elective procedure, and may seek non-surgical alternatives to rejuvenate the face.

In such cases, the cosmetic surgeon may recommend various innovative and advanced non-surgical facelift treatment options. Board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Gary Motykie, provides both surgical and non-surgical treatments to his patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding areas.

    Anti-Wrinkle Topical Treatments

Anti-wrinkle facelift creams and lotions are available over the counter, and may also be offered by a medical spa. These topical treatments include moisturizers that keep the tissue hydrated and help to keep the skin plump. As a result, the wrinkles and fine lines on the face can fade. A skin care expert can advise the most suitable topical treatments according to a patient’s skin type and condition of wrinkles.

    Botox Injections

FDA approved Botox injectable treatment is probably the most popular non-surgical facelift option worldwide. It is based on a powerful biological agent called botulinum toxin that acts as a muscle immobilizer. A direct injectable delivery of this toxin into an overactive, wrinkle causing muscle can relax the muscle instantly, and lead to reduction or disappearance of wrinkle. The results of Botox treatment can last for about three to four months.

    Thermage

Thermage skin tightening is an innovative skin collagen renewal procedure. Sagging facial skin can be tightened and youthful vigor of the face can be restored without surgery with this non-invasive facelift option.

Thermage employs a heat treatment to tighten the skin, promote the production of fresh collagen, and reduce the wrinkles. The treatment is based on radiofrequency energy. A medical spa may recommend a number of plastic surgery substitutes, including Thermage skin tightening, for patients who wish to avoid facelift surgery.

    Laser Skin Tightening

Laser skin tightening is an effective non-surgical facelift solution, which involves low intensity laser light to stimulate the production of new collagen in the underlying layers of the skin. The treatment causes oxygenation and moisturizing of the skin to promote skin repair, firm up loose skin, and enhance the texture and appearance.

The treatment involves almost no downtime. Patients may have to undergo three treatment sessions on average to achieve optimal results. Dr. Motykie is a leading cosmetic surgeon providing laser skin tightening and other procedures to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby locations.

    Microcurrent Facelift

Microcurrent facelift, also known as Bio-ultimate procedure, is designed to stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin in the skin via gentle electric currents. It promotes blood flow in the facial skin, causes re-hydration, and leads to firming up of the skin to reduce wrinkles and lines.

Non-surgical Microcurrent facelift can be performed to lift eyebrows and jowls, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, exfoliate the skin, and enhance muscle tone and skin texture in the face and neck.

    Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction

    Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction

Tummy Tuck | Liposuction | Body Contouring | Beverly Hills | Los AngelesMany adults tend to accumulate excessive fat tissue around the waist, which can spoil the overall body contour. Sometimes it may not be possible to get rid of this unwanted fat with diet or exercise. Over a period of time the fat cells become resistant, and the abdominal skin may also become stretched and lose some of its elasticity. In such situations, plastic surgery may be the most effective solution available to restore a flatter and firmer abdomen.

Liposuction and tummy tuck are two critical procedures in cosmetic surgery that may be used individually or in combination to improve the abdominal contours. During the initial consultation, the cosmetic surgeon will evaluate the patient’s condition and assess their unique aesthetic needs before recommending the appropriate treatment. Board certified plastic surgeon Gary Motykie provides both these treatment options to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.

    Key Differences

The following differences will primarily distinguish tummy tuck plastic surgery from liposuction:

    Fat and Skin Reduction

In cases where the patient suffers from stubborn abdominal fat pockets as well as loose skin, the surgeon may suggest a tummy tuck procedure. This procedure will also be necessary to tighten underlying abdominal muscles if they are weak or separated. On the other hand, liposuction will be more suited if the patient is bothered by the presence of excess fat tissue in the lower abdominal area, but the skin laxity is not an issue.

    Elaborate Procedure

Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck surgery is typically a more elaborate procedure in comparison to liposuction. Tummy tuck will involve excision of excess fat as well as loose skin, and in some cases, may also involve tightening of loose muscles. Liposuction is merely a fat reduction surgery that is targeted and relatively less invasive. However, the scope of liposuction is limited only to fat reduction.

Scarring will usually be more visible and prominent in case of tummy tuck. As an experienced cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Motykie will explain the pros and cons of both procedures to his patients to help them make an informed decision. He receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas for tummy tuck and liposuction surgery.

    Recovery

Tummy tuck recovery is generally longer, and the patient may be required to take off from work about two weeks for proper recovery. In case of liposuction, which is usually performed under local anesthesia and involves smaller incisions, the recovery may take only about five to seven days. Vigorous activities in both cases must be avoided for about four to six weeks.

    Good Candidates

Tummy tuck is generally performed on patients who have crossed the age of 40. At this age, the skin laxity is higher in the abdominal area. Women who have been through multiple pregnancies may also need tummy tuck to restore their figure.

Liposuction, on the other hand, is more suited when the patient’s skin elasticity is fairly high in the abdomen, but only fat tissue needs to be reduced. Underlying muscles will be fairly tight in this case, and the patient will have a moderate and stable body weight before the surgeon recommends liposuction.
