Tummy Tuck vs. Tummy Lift Surgery

Excess fat and skin in the abdominal area can be addressed with tummy tuck or tummy lift plastic surgery procedure. The procedures are designed to create a firmer and tighter abdominal profile, which may otherwise be difficult if the condition is resistant to diet and exercise.

Dr. Gary Motykie is a renowned cosmetic surgeon providing both tummy tuck and tummy lift procedures in a state of the art surgical environment. Dr. Motykie receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and surrounding communities.

    Tummy Tuck Procedure

Tummy tuck plastic surgery procedure is more comprehensive and may address both lower and upper abdominal areas as per the patient’s needs. The procedure is primarily designed to reduce excess skin in the tummy area in order to produce a smoother and more youthful looking abdominal contour. However, if the underlying abdominal muscles are weakened or separated, the surgeon will also tighten these muscles for more sustainable results.

Through the same incisions that will be used to excise loose skin, the surgeon may also remove excess fat tissue from the abdomen. In some cases, tummy tuck may be combined with liposuction for more effective results. A number of surgical techniques are available today to perform tummy tuck.

As an experienced cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Motykie will choose the most appropriate technique to meet the patient’s needs. He provides tummy tuck and other procedures to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles, and nearby areas. Tummy tuck surgery can essentially combine tummy lift. The position of the navel may also be shifted to a more youthful level in this procedure.

    Tummy Lift

Compared to a full tummy tuck surgery, the tummy lift procedure is less invasive and involves lesser downtime. Tummy lift technique may be recommended for patients who only suffer from loose skin and weak abdominal muscle problems in the lower abdominal area.

If skin elasticity is poor in the lower abdomen, and the accumulation of excess fat is locally confined only to that area and not the full abdomen, a tummy lift will help. Abdominal wall muscles around the navel may also be tightened in a tummy lift surgery.

    Procedure

In case of tummy lift surgery, the entire surgical work is done just below the navel. The surgeon will place an incision diagonally in the lower abdominal area. Excess fat tissue and loose skin will be removed from the abdominal wall to the navel through the incision. The procedure will also involve two tight abdominal muscles that are stretched under the navel and are then bounded together again.

When the excess fat tissue is removed, the detached layer will be pulsed away, and later re-attached. The entire tummy lift procedure can be completed in about one to two hours, and is usually performed with the patient under general anesthesia. Most patients can return home the same day.

Tummy lift surgery is relatively less drastic than a full tummy tuck. Scarring will not be as pronounced, and pain and discomfort during the recovery period will also be less than its counterpart.
