Kybella®
Beverly HillsDouble chins are a common development as we age—and for those who have a hereditary propensity towards the development of “submental fullness”, also known as a double chin, these fatty deposits can occur even during youth. Particularly for those of us who have experienced past weight gain, the resulting double chin can be very hard to tame with diet and exercise. Fortunately, Kybella® is an innovative, non-surgical solution for addressing under-chin fat, and is performed quickly and with minimal discomfort. Kybella® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable solution to address submental fullness.

Traditional cosmetic surgery to address double chins is painful, and requires considerable downtime. Kybella® is an excellent alternative to surgery, with benefits including:

• Reduces the appearance of a double chin
• Rapid, easy to manage treatments
• Minimal discomfort and downtime
• Performed with local and topical anesthesia

What to Expect From Kybella®

Kybella® treatments are performed in our comfortable offices, without requiring a hospital stay or significant downtime. Kybella® consists of a simple series of injections to the fatty deposits under the chin. The injections contain a solution of deoxycholic acid—a naturally occurring substance that is known for its ability to metabolize and melt away fat. With a trained and practiced eye, Dr. Motykie will evaluate your areas of submental fullness, developing a comprehensive treatment plan that will gradually melt away areas of unwanted under-chin fat. Most patients require several treatments in order to achieve their desired aesthetic effect.

Each patient’s treatment plan is unique, and Dr. Motykie uses his extensive experience and skills to develop a program that will result in a natural, elegant profile in harmony with your facial features. During treatment, you will receive a series of Kybella® injections using small needles. Topical or local anesthetics may be applied to the treatment area in order to mitigate any discomfort. Typically, the injections themselves are not noticeably uncomfortable, while a slight burning or stinging sensation may be experienced as the Kybella® solution enters the sub-dermal area.

Following your treatment, you may experience some mild swelling and soreness, and the area will be bandaged for the first 24-48 hours. In some cases, a compression garment is also used to aid in the first days of the healing process. After that, some slight bruising may be evident, which can easily be covered up by camouflaging make-up, and you can return to your normal daily activities. During this period, you are likely to feel a tightening effect in the treated area, as the fat cells break down and are re-absorbed by the body’s natural processes. Some slight tenderness or numbness may persist for several weeks following treatment, but will dissipate in time. After approximately one month following treatment, the under-chin fat will show visible signs of reduction, and will continue to improve gradually over the next several months as the body metabolizes the un-wanted fat cells, resulting in a smooth, sleek, natural look.
